Ryan White Case

Vaughan and Vaughan was started in 1913 by Vincent D. Vaughan and Charles L. Vaughan. Our 3rd generation firm is still owned and operated by members of the Vaughan family, Charles R. Vaughan and Charles V. Vaughan.

With a long history of trial successes, we concentrate in the areas of serious personal injury, wrongful death, condemnation law, complex business litigation and probate and estate matters.

The firm may be best known for its representation of Ryan White in 1986 and 1987. Ryan White was excluded from attending school in Kokomo, Indiana, because he suffered from AIDS. Charles R. Vaughan and Charles V. Vaughan fought to change the law and succeeded in returning Ryan to school despite his illness. Their courageous representation led to the enactment of the federal Ryan White Act and helped to lessen discrimination against AIDS victims across the country.
